Jackpot shows for youth still on

At a special meeting of the Huron Community Fair Board on May 9, the board regrettably voted to cancel the upcoming fair.

 

This action came after much communication about the health and safety of all fair attendees and with our fiscal responsibility to be able to continue the long tradition of the fair moving into the future.

We acknowledge the hardships the youth and adults of this county have had over the past several months. The board is looking at the possibility of offering portions of our shows. We are looking at all formats, including virtual show options (within state guidelines). These events will be guided and approved by the board with the hope of providing safe and continued support to the youth of our county.

Planning has already begun on the 2021 fair. We are looking forward to working with the many people that have been a great support to our fair.

At a Huron Community Fair board meeting earlier this month, the board decided to move forward with hosting an in-person, jackpot-style livestock shows.

The livestock shows will take place Aug. 5, 6, and 7, at the fairgrounds and are open for only those Huron County youth who preregistered with the board prior to the June 1, deadline.

Due to current Covid-19 conditions in our state, we anticipate the fairgrounds will be closed to the public during these jackpot shows. The fair board will comply with all state guidelines as it relates to Covid-19. At this time, it is planned to allow only the youth, their animal and limited number of persons to be on the grounds at the time of the jackpot shows.

The show days and times are as follows:

Wednesday, Aug. 5, 9 a.m. feeder steers, 1 p.m. market steers, and beef breeding to follow.

Thursday, Aug. 6, 9 a.m.  hogs, noon goats, followed by sheep.

Friday, 10 a.m. Aug. 7, rabbits followed by poultry.

All youth participating in the jackpot shows are to check-in and have their animal weighed an hour prior to their show time. Barns will not be open however wash racks will be available and youth will be working from their trailers. The board is working with area businesses to provide financial incentives for those youth showing at our August shows.

The fair board members will be reaching out to each exhibitor who preregistered for the shows to confirm their attendance and share details of show times and requirements. Youth or parents with questions can contact any fair board member for additional information.
